Rebecca Flora, 69, of Tama, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 22, 2014, at home surrounded by her family due to complications of Lupus. She was under the care of Iowa River Hospice. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, June 25, at 10 a.m. at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Rev. Harlan Nuss officiating. There will be a private family interment at a later date.
Rebecca was born on Feb. 2, 1945, in Marshalltown, the daughter of LeRoy C. and Doris J. (Sash) Damman. She grew up in the area of her birth and graduated from Baxter High School in 1963. That same year she married her high school sweetheart, Eugene Flora. The couple was blessed with three daughters.
In 1977, she graduated from the LPN program at Marshalltown Community College. She worked for 30 plus years as a staff nurse at MMSC, until illness forced her retirement. She loved nursing, and the patients that were in her care. She worked with her husband on the family farm, and loved gardening and flowers. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. Raising chickens and helping with the hogs and cattle never seemed like work to her.
Survivors include her beloved husband of 50 years, Eugene of Tama; three daughters, Jody (Daryl) Carmer of Marshalltown, Jill (Cory) Kroeger of Montour and Jennifer Ferriss (Mike Bryan) of Eldora; eight granddaughters, Candace Carmer, Andrea Carmer (Trevor Armstrong), Amber Kroeger, Kelly Carmer, Michelle Kroeger, Stacie Carmer, Emilee Ferriss and Aimee Ferriss; three grandsons, Timothy Lamb, Travis Lamb and Colton Kroeger; one great-granddaughter, Alice Armstrong; her father, LeRoy Damman of State Center; her siblings, Barbara (Mike) Meyer of Kellogg, Debra (Bruce) DeSilva of Grundy Center and Jeffrey (Betty) Damman of Melbourne; along with numerous loved nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her maternal and paternal grandparents; and her mother in 1995.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa River Hospice or favorite charity.
