It was the second meeting of the season for the STC Trojans and the South Hardin Tigers. Their last meeting was on May 29 in Eldora where the softball team got a 9-3 victory while the baseball boys put the hurt on the Tigers with a 15-2 win.

On Monday June 16, in a doubleheader matchup, it was the Trojans turn for home field advantage. While the boys and girls each got their first game in, mother nature decided to change plans midway through the evening. Strong storms rolled in and after a couple of lightning delays the games were eventually called and rescheduled for later in the week.

Now let's get to the good stuff, starting with the ladies. The Trojans got things rolling right away. The Trojan defense, led by starting pitcher Sam Holtz, was able to hold the Tigers off until the third inning where they scored three runs.

Offensively the Trojans started strong with seven runs scored in the first two innings. Nearly the entire Trojan lineup got involved at the plate with every batter recording at least one hit, run, or RBI.

The Tigers rebounded with three runs coming in the third inning. STC never let off the gas however as they nearly doubled their production in the first two innings for a whopping six runs. The Trojan defense clamped back down and kept the Tigers off the board for the rest of the night.

A highlight for the Trojans, particularly for Slammin' Samantha Holtz, was her second career homerun. But this was not just any homerun. With bases loaded, Holtz stepped up to plate and crushed the ball over the fence for a grand slam home run!

The game ended in the bottom of the fourth with two more Trojan runs for a final score of 15-3.

Across the parking lot the boys took an early lead by scoring six runs in the first inning.

Something must have been in the air Monday as the baseball team caught "home run fever" as well. Catcher Kolton Smith led off in the sixth inning with a blistering line drive deep into right field that crossed the fence for a solo homer. This was Smith's second homerun of the season (his first was at S. Hardin). It was also a local milestone as there hasn't been an STC homer at the Trojan ballpark for several years. STC shutout the Tigers on Monday with a final score of 9-0. Dalton Doyle got the win for the Trojans with seven strikeouts and no runs across seven innings.
