Toledo Mayor Dave Svoboda reviews some of the local projects which have received federal funding through the efforts of U.S. Senator Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) with Kim Taylor, Harkin aide from Cedar Rapids on Thursday, June 12. In 2005, the City of Toledo was awarded $50,000 from the USDA Rural Development office to build an early childhood education facility for residents of South Tama County. Since 2001, $986,000 has come to the area in FEMA grants that have provided for firefighting equipment, training, and vehicle acquisition. The stop by Taylor was part of the "In the Footsteps of History" tour being conducted by Harkin's office. He is retiring at the end of his current term.
