Paul Francis Malina, 86, formerly of Chelsea, died Friday, June 13, 2014, at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama. Funeral services will be at10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Chelsea with Deacon Joe Behounek presiding. Organist will be Jane Hrabak with Anna Upah, vocalist Jeanne Borne Mann and Barb Malina will do the readings. Pallbearers are John Malina, Mike Malina, Jerome Behounek, David Klenk, Richard Hrabak, and Robert Jedlicka. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery with Military Rites by Benda-Sell American Legion Post of Chelsea.
He was born Oct. 9, 1927 in Chelsea to James Sr. and Mary Benda Malina. He attended St. Joseph's Catholic school and graduated from Chelsea public school in 1946. In 1950, he entered the U.S. Army and was stationed at Camp Rucker, Ala., where he served as an M.P.
Upon his return to Chelsea, he went into business with his uncle, Steve Benda and brother Stanley doing carpentry, electrical wiring, and plumbing. Later he and Stanley used their abilities to help the church, school, and rectory when repairs were needed, donating their labor for the jobs, asking only for the cost of the parts and materials.

In later years, the brothers gave up the carpentry to specialize in plumbing and furnace installation. They always had people stopping by for parts or small appliance repair.
Paul is survived by his brother, Stanley of Sunny Hill; sister-in-law, Wilma Malina of Chelsea; and nieces and nephews.
