Work began more than a month ago on sidewalks bordering the U.S. Highway 63 route through Tama.
Iowa Department of Transportation spokesperson Andy Loonan told The News-Herald work on the sidewalks is being done across the state to bring walkways which are adjacent to highways into compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act.
He said the work will be ongoing from town to town through the rest of the year.

Dobersen-Smith Construction and Absolute Concrete, Brooklyn, were identified as the primary contractors for the work by Loonan.
Although he was unable to give a cost breakdown for the Tama work, he said the cost for all of DOT?District 1 is $4 million.
