By Joyce Wiese - News-Herald Correspondent , Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

On Monday, June 1, at the regular meeting of the Tama County Board of Supervisors, Laura Kopsa, county treasurer, advised the Board of Supervisors to set the date of Monday, June 9, at 1:00 p.m. for the time and place for the Primary Election Canvas.

This will be held in the Tama County Board of Supervisors room.

Lyle Brehm, County Engineer reported work was coming along well on the bridge in the north part of the county, just one-half mile south of the Grundy County line. Brehm said one end of the bridge was done and they were jacking up the other end to do work there.

Brehm also explained where there is Federal money involved, the main contractor usually does not do all the work on a project but sublets part of it.

Brehm said he has been asked many times why local contractors are not given the subcontracting jobs, however, it is illegal for him to recommend any local contractors. Therefore, it is up to the main contractor to pick who his company uses for subcontracting.

Brehm said the county will be doing some work in Highland Township south of Dunham farms in the very near future.

Claims approved for payment for the past week totaled $70,506
