Toledo Library has been active

May 23, 2014
By Jennifer Bledsoe - Library Director , Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

The Toledo Library has been an active place this spring with many events bringing people into the library.

Each school year, the library provides an early out program for kids on Wednesdays and an after school Studio Time program each Thursday bringing in lots of eager crafters. We are always happy to see these kids and it's amazing to see what they create.

National Library Week was celebrated in April and May Day Baskets were made in May and passed out to library patrons.

Recently the library foundation hosted two Humanities Iowa Events that were both fun, interesting and well attended.

Barb Lounsberry presented Nancy Drew and Sarah Uthoff presented a Laura Ingalls Wilder Program to our after school crowd. We are fortunate to have these programs from the Humanities Iowa Speaker's Bureau available and visit our library and community.

The library recently celebrated National Children's Book Week in conjunction with promoting our new children's checkout station. The library received a grant from the State Library Of Iowa to help purchase equipment for the new checkout station. (Which staff and kids both love).

We also promoted a portion of our brand new children's books that we purchased through a grant from the R.J McElroy Trust.

The library has also received a Tama County Community Foundation grant for the purpose of purchasing children's books. ou can look for those books to be hitting the shelves in the fall.

The library is grateful to these funding sources for seeing the Toledo Library as a vital contributor to the community.

The library is happy to be hosting the annual End of the School Year Ice Cream Sundaes on Wednesday, May 28 at 3 p.m.

This is open to all kids and sponsored by our local Fareway Store!

Be sure to check our website (click on Summer Events) and check our Facebook Page for more fantastic upcoming summer programs in June and July and thank you for supporting your library.
