Throughout her high school golfing career senior Paige Van Dyk has met and surpassed several goals set before her. Van Dyk's personal goals last year were to become a conference champ and advance to and win the state competition. She has very similar goals this year, her final year as a Trojan. "It's sad and exciting at the same time because I am excited to move on to college but sad because this was my favorite sport," said Van Dyk. Van Dyk will join the UNI golf team when she starts college next fall. But for now she can officially check conference champ off her list as she once again took the top spot in the NICL west conference on Tuesday May 13. She's hopefully not going to stop there, as she hopes to advance to this year's state meet and have a shot at bringing home another state title.

Van Dyk shot 75 for the Trojans putting her in first place in the NICL west conference meet. The team as a whole placed second. Coach Melinda McDowell thought it was awesome and was very proud of how the girls played. "Overall, we shot a 389, which is 17 strokes better than what we had there a few weeks ago at the invitational," said McDowell.

Having Laurel Scharnweber back also helped the Trojans. Scharnweber claimed the overall seventh place finish after winning a playoff and ending the day with a score of 98. Carrie Cibula was the third leading scorer for STC with 101 and Trisha Walz ended with a 115. "Trisha and Erin Clayton both played really well today and were both in the 50's on the back 9. As a team, our back 9 score was a 186, which is our best this year!" said McDowell.

Earning the NICL west conference team championship was Grundy Center with a score of 361. The Trojans ended the day as the runner-up with a score of 389. West Marshall came in third with 398, then South Hardin with 422, BCLUW with 438, followed by East Marshall with 461, and AGWSR with 489.

The Trojans also played 18 holes in a tournament on Saturday May 17 at the T-T Country Club. Benton, Grinnell, Independence, Nevada, Newton, and Vinton-Shellsburg were in attendance. While Van Dyk may have had a rough start to the day shooting eight over par on the front nine she proved she was ever the fighter and came back with a one over par on the second nine. Van Dyk came out on top with a final score of 80.
