A man sought by authorities in Iowa and Minnesota and his passenger face firearms and drug charges after loaded guns were found under the seat of the vehicle they were traveling in on U.S. Highway 63 at Traer on Friday night, May 2.
What the Tama County Sheriff's Office says started out as a routine traffic stop by Deputy Sheriff Casey Schmidt resulted in the arrest of Adam Cade Michael Gilson, 29, Ft. Dodge, and Cori Michelle Benson, 26, who also lists a Ft. Dodge address. However she states in court records she has been "living on the streets for the past five months."
Gilson, the vehicle driver, was charged with two counts of possession of a firearm as a felon after a Ruger 9 mm handgun with a magazine full of ammunition was allegedly found under his car seat and a loaded, Beretta P84 9 mm handgun was reported found under the passenger seat. He also was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, providing false identification and interference with official acts.

Gilson is being held in the Tama County Jail in Toledo on $50,000 cash bond. He is wanted on theft charges in Minnesota, theft and trespassing charges in Storm Lake, Iowa, and for probation violation in Story County, Iowa, according to jail records.
Benson was charged with carrying weapons for the loaded Beretta under her seat, three counts of forgery for allegedly possessing three counterfeit $20 bills, possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine and illegal possession of a prescription drug.
She is being held on $25,000 cash bond in the Tama County Jail and for Webster County on a parole violation charge.
