STC Trojan girls tennis bounces Dike-New Hartford 6-3

May 13, 2014
Steve Bearden - Head Girls Tennis Coach , Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

The STC Girls Tennis Team handed visiting Dike New Hartford a 6-3 dual meet loss on May 5 at the STC Tennis Complex. The Trojans put themselves in a winning position by sweeping the first four singles matches.

Emily Martin proved her toughness as she faced Rachael Koop at #1 Singles. Even a slight flu bug couldn't slow the STC Senior as she built an 8-0 lead en route to a 10-2 victory. The win pushed her overall singles record to 5-1 this season. Madison Baack took to the court against Tessa Dall at #2 Singles. She cruised to a 10-3 win for the Trojans.

At #3 Singles, Tori Appelgate and Ali Meyer looked across the net at each other. The match proved to a slugfest as Meyer held a slight lead throughout the early stages of the set. Appelgate broke serve to get even and then held serve to lead 5-4. From that point on, Appelgate remained in control as she built towards a 10-6 win. Senior Caitlin Svacina remained focused throughout her match against Abby Klug at #4 Singles. She took a quick 3-0 lead to give herself a comfortable cushion. She converted that fast start to a 6-1 lead. Ultimately, Svacina was too good as she grabbed the 10-3 win.
