This past week has, at times, been a frustrating one for both the STC boys and girls track teams. Recent weather conditions have been a challenge this spring, postponing or canceling several STC events. Even the meets that have proceeded proved to be downright miserable due to Mother Nature. The Grinnell Relays that took place on Tuesday April 29 were one of the more difficult competitions the Trojans have faced this year. While the boys made it through eight events at home (results can be found in the May 7 Chronicle) the girls pushed through the entirety of their meet for what Coach Olivia Van Zante referred to as a disappointing finish.

"It was just a bad night all around", agreed Coach Corum. "The girls just couldn't get the fire started and ignite that team drive that usually happens. Blame it on the nasty weather or mental preparation, or both sometimes a team has an off night competitively". Two highlights for the Trojans came from Samantha Holtz and Courtney Anderson, Holtz captured the lone first place finish for the Trojans in the shot put. Freshman Courtney Anderson jumped a PR (4'6") in the long jump putting her in fourth place.

The varsity girls had a chance to redeem themselves two days later at Ballard. Weather again played a role in results. The meet began with extremely high winds that finally let up midway through the meet. Corum stated the blustery conditions wreaked havoc on several events, making it difficult for the tracksters to even compete. The Lady Trojans ran to a second place finish however, only five points shy of champion Gilbert.

Coach Van Zante stated that South Tama performed well against some very competitive teams but still left some points out there that would have made a difference overall. STC only had two first place finishes on the night and had consistent performances on the rest of the events with some of the events scoring two athletes for the Trojans.
