The South Tama County Girls Tennis Team kept Marion, and an impending rainstorm, at bay long enough on Tuesday, April 29 in order to record a convincing 8-1 victory.
STC Senior Emily Martin ran her season record to 4-0 with an easy 8-0 win over Allison Edwards at #1 Singles. At #2 Singles, Madison Baack dropped the first game in her match with Kali Gamerdinger before running off the next eight games to post an 8-1 win.
Tori Appelgate took control of her match immediately against Kate Quint at #3 Singles. Appelgate's all court game was too much for her opponent as she raced to an 8-1 victory. STC's Caitlin Svacina matched up against Madison Wilson at #4 Singles. A left-hander, Wilson baffled Svacina en route to an 8-2 win for the host team.
At #5 Singles, Senior Taylor Muhlstein fell behind 0-1 early before gaining her form against Shannon Sellers. Muhlstein defeated Sellers 8-2.
Sydney Meek handled Sara Farnham at #6 Singles by a score of 8-2.
STC dominated play in doubles. The #1 Doubles team of Martin/Baack outclassed Wilson/Gamerdinger while posting an 8-0 victory for the Trojans. Appelgate/Svacina kept things rolling for the Trojans as they took on Quint/Edwards at #2 Doubles. The experienced team from STC overwhelmed their opponents and recorded an 8-2 victory. In the final match, STC's Muhlstein/Meek faced Katy Saba/Monica Corona at #3 Doubles. The visiting Trojans took the match easily 8-0.
In JV Action, STC took two of seven matches. Ali Vavra/Mollie Morgan recorded a 6-2 win over their opponents. Sophomores Megan Mann/Natalie Wesley defeated their opponents 6-4. Lisa Morrow/Jessica McFate and Elizabeth De La Torre/Delilah Fonseca lost close matches by a score of 5-7 each. Natalie Stadler/Rachael McAdoo fell 3-6 to their opponents.
