Letter to the Editor:
Be Proud of your Community
Most people as a rule take pride in their dwelling, or in the vehicle they drive, whether new or old. Then why is it that they can't take the same pride in their community? Does it make them feel good to look at all the trash along the streets and in the road ditches? Is that the way they keep their living quarters? I realize that it is not only here in Toledo that we have this problem, but we don't have to contribute to it.
There are trash containers at every convience store as well as at a lot of other businesses through out the country. It doesn't cost anything to dispose of trash properly when you get out of a vehicle. Besides it would make you feel better if you knew that none of this garbage is yours.
Businesses need to keep their trash from blowing in the wind. I believe Iowa is considered one of the windiest states in the nation. So let's act accordingly. If you don't have enough room for all the waste, either get it dumped more frequently, or get more containers.
Our recycle area has dumpsters for paper, plastics, cardboard, and glass. NOT furniture, computers, garbage and other landfill items.
Be a little more respectful of your neighbors and friends. Correct them if you see them doing wrong.
If you, the public, insist on trying to beat the system, we just may have to do away with the recycle program, and our brush pile, and let everybody haul everything to the landfill. Our sister city, Tama, is having the same problems.
Let's all work together to keep our communities clean!!! It takes only a very few to screw up the works for everybody.
