JV, Varsity track teams take second, third

The South Tama girls track team took 15 girls to compete at Clear-Creek Amana on Friday April 11.

1st Place Finishes: Taylor Ellenbecker, 3000 M Run 11:54.93

2nd Place Finishes: Samantha Holtz , Shot Put 38'-2.50" and Discus 108'7"; Belle Tyynismaa, Jensen Vodochodsky, Madie Bacon, McKenna Knock, 4x800 10:36.04

3rd Place Finishes: Taylor Ellenbecker, 800 M Run and 1500 M Run; Belle Tyynismaa, 200 M Dash

Nine personal records were set by the following tracksters: Lauren Yuska in the Long Jump, the 4x800 M Relay team, Belle Tyynismaa in the 400 M Run, Julie Wise in the 100 M Hurdles, Taylor Ellenbecker in the 800 M Run and 1500 M Run, Allison Yuska and Julie Wise in the 400 M Hurdles and the Sprint Medley Relay team.

"STC had a really good showing against several perennial powerhouse track teams. Our distance group turned in some very strong performances. As coaches, we are still trying to put together relay groupings (personnel and running order) that allow the team to be more competitive. The teams continued hard work allows us to be among the top teams at our track meets", said Coach George Corum.

While the varsity squad was at Clear-Creek Amana the JV team competed at the Meskwaki Invite.

2nd Place Finishes: Naomi Hoskey, 1500 M Run 5:50.63; M Thede, 3000 M Run 13:45.96

3rd Place Finishes: Sabrina Holtz, Shot Put 29'9" and Discus 80'6"; Danae Cleppe, 400 M Run 1:13.43; Mahala Doyle, 800 M Run 2:51.30; Shayla Peshel, Shae Slaven, Brycelyn Haughey, Sabrina Holtz, 4x100 M Relay 58.11; Schroeder, Thede, Naomi Hoskey, Mahala Doyle, 4x400 Relay 5:06.66

Eleven personal records were set by the JV girls. Thomazin in the 100 M Dash, Cleppe in the 400 M Run, Doyle and Thede in the 800 M Run, Peshel and Thomazin in the 200 M Dash, Wise in the 400 M Hurdles, the Spint Medley Relay team, Doyle in the 1500 M Run and the 4x100 M Relay team.

Coach Corum was very proud of the STC JV team stating, "What an exciting night of track for the 12 JV girls that ran at this meet! Coach Van Zante really asked a lot of the team, especially running against other school's varsity teams. Our distance personnel turned in some good efforts. It was a great opportunity for our athletes to show what they are capable of."
