Despite late arriving spring weather, the STC Girls Tennis Season continues to roll on. Taking on temperatures in the 30s and a talented team from Waverly Shellrock, the Trojans came up short by a score of 2-7 on April 15.
Senior Emily Martin continues to impress as she totaled another win at #1 Singles. Martin took down Ashley Maley by using quick footwork and a consistent ground game in route to a 10-6 victory. The unusually cold and rainy weather has wrecked the Trojan's practice schedule. "Not hitting outside for four days was really hard. It showed in my match," commented Martin.
The doubles team of Emily Martin/Madison Baack collected the only other win on the night for the Trojans as they pushed back Maley/Fox by a score of 10-4 at #1 Doubles. Martin's power paralyzed Maley/Fox throughout the match. Baack's touch also kept their opponents guessing at crucial times. This duo has dominated their opponents early in the season by using their experience and trusting their doubles instincts.

Baack was slow to find her form in her match with Ali Arns at #2 Singles. She fell by a score of 0-10. Senior Tori Appelgate locked into a battle with Hannah Fox at #3 Singles. Appelgate jumped out to a 4-2 lead before Arns tied things up at 4-4. Both players kept pace until Appelgate surged ahead 6-5. Arns ran off the final five games to nab a 10-5 win for Waverly Shellrock.
STC's Caitlin Svacina faced Emma Friedly at #4 Singles. Friedly proved too tough in route to a 10-2 win for the visiting team. Waverly Shellrock's Jordyn Mason cruised to a 10-2 win over STC's Taylor Muhlstein at #5 Singles. Junior Sydney Meek fell by a score of 0-10 against Chelsea Poesch at #6 Singles.
Svacina and Appelgate teamed to face Friedly/Poesch at #2 Doubles. The team from Waverly Shellrock came away with a hard fought 10-3 win in a match that was more competitive than the final score indicates. Svacina found her form while being tested at the net repeatedly by the duo from Waverly Shellrock. Trying to intimidate her, they fired shot after shot Svacina's way. Over time, Svacina found her footing and bravely sent the ball back with confidence. Appelgate's athleticism backed up her teammate while placing the ball well throughout the match. Meek/Muhlstein faced Arns/Olson at #3 Doubles and suffered a 1-10 loss.
In JV Action, the Trojans won four of the twelve matches played. STC's wins came from the doubles teams of Natalie Stadler/Megan Mann, Natalie Stadler/Delilah Fonseca, Elizabeth De La Torre/Mackenzie McFate, and Lisa Morrow/Jessica McFate.
