The South Tama County Girls Tennis Team opened their season on Tuesday, April 8 by hosting Oskaloosa at the South Tama County Tennis Complex. The Trojans were close but didn't have enough to overcome their opponent in route to a 3-6 loss.

Senior Emily Martin solved her opponent's game, as well as, the gusty wind to win at #1 Singles. She easily defeated Kailey Scharff by a score of 10-2. At #2 Singles, Senior Madison Baack started slow in her match by falling behind 2-5. She fought her way back to challenge Jamie Stewart before falling by a score of 8-10.
Senior Tori Appelgate faced off against Bethany Rowley at #3 Singles. Rowley played an aggressive net game to find success as she posted a 4-10 win for the visitors. Senior Caitlin Svacina took to the court against Abbie Meyer at #4 Singles. Svacina fell behind early 2-5 before finding her way back to get things to 6-7. Meyer won the last three games to take a 6-10 win.
Senior Taylor Muhlstein took the court against Morgan Holle at #5 Singles. Holle raced to an early lead and posted a 1-10 win. Junior Sydney Meek played Asli Bayram at #6 Singles. In a tight battle, Meek kept contact with her opponent throughout the match. She was able to grab the lead after it was 5-5 to surge ahead and take a 7-6 lead. She maintained control in converting a 10-7 win for the Trojans.
After falling behind 2-4 after singles action, South Tama staged a furious comeback. Set on sweeping the doubles matches and therefore, a dual meet win, STC took to the doubles court.
The number one doubles team of Martin/Baack took to the court determined to put STC on the winning track. They raced to a 5-2 lead and never looked back. Playing as if they were in mid-season form, the experienced duo from STC frustrated and dismantled the game of Scharff/Rowley in route to an easy 10-3 win.
Next up for the Trojans were Appelgate/Svacina at #2 Doubles against Stewart/Meyer. In a match that involved a high level of play by all, the team from STC found themselves trailing most of the match but still keeping within reach. Finally breaking serve to notch things at 8-8, Appelgate/Svacina found themselves in a tight match. At 10-10, the two teams entered a tiebreaker to decide a winner. The team from Oskaloosa grabbed the match by winning the tiebreaker 3-7.
Finally, at #3 Doubles, despite racing to a 6-1 lead, the team from South Tama, Muhlstein/Meek, fell to Holle/Bayram by a score of 7-10.
The Trojans next face Marion (April 14), Waverly Shellrock (April 15) and play in the North Polk Invite (April 19).
In Junior Varsity Action, STC picked up the win by defeating Oskaloosa by a score of 4-3. The teams of Natalie Wesely/Megan Mann, Rachael McAdoo/Natalie Stadler (2 wins), and Elizabeth De La Torre/Natalie Wesely all posted wins for South Tama.
