ST/EM hosted Collins-Maxwell in the first game of the season on Tuesday, April 8th. ST/EM started the game with Sam Earley in goal; Sadie Kavalier, Hailee Weiss, Cynthia Lares, and Ericka Dunning in defense; Araceli Angel, Dani Stubbs, Kristi Lasley, and Kloey Fairall in the mid-field, with Mona Nunez and Catie Collins up front. The weather was sunny but cool with a wind out of the NW.
ST/EM won the toss and took the wind, and the game was on. ST/EM pushed the game right off the bat and controlled the tempo for the first 40 minutes. ST/EM had good looks, and the first half was played in the Collins end of the field. Mona Nunez started the action with a nice shot on goal at the 5 minute mark that the CMB goalie gathered in. ST/EM kept up the pressure and Catie Collins had a go but again to no avail.
ST/EM switched goalies at the 10 minute mark, with Hanna Kecker taking over the goalie duties and Sam Early playing mid-field. This lead to even more pressure, but again nothing to show for it. Mona had 5 more shots in the first half, with Araceli having a couple of good lucks, along with Dani Stubbs. Sadie Kavalier had a nice shot from 30 yards out that the goalie just got her hands on to stop the shot.
Catie Collins plays in season opening game for STC.

The ST/EM goalie only touched the ball 3 times the first half, but again ST/EM could not find the back of the goal. Half time ended with score tied 0-0.
The second half found Sam back in goal, as CMB had the wind. But again ST/EM continued to force the action, and continued to outplay CMB.
CMB continued to play good defense but ST/EM continued to fire shots at CMB goalie. But the shots were at the goalie, and she continued to make the saves.
Hailee Weiss made a very good run from the back line and fired a bullet that the CMB goalie knocked down and got on before the ST/EM player could get on it. And this is the way the game ended with a 0-0 score, so off to overtime the teams go.
ST/EM continued to press and Dani had two good shots but again to no avail. The ST/EM defense continued to play outstanding defense, not allowing CMB a shot in the first overtime. So the first overtime ended with neither team getting a goal. But as well as ST/EM played, the second overtime was not kind to the team. CMB got a thru ball and they took advantage of this chance. The ST/EM goalie blocked the first shot and punched the rebound out, but it fell right at the feet of a CMB player and 1 minute into the second overtime, CMB found the golden goal to end the game.
This was a tough loss for the ST/EM players, as they totally outplayed and out hustled CMB. They won the fifty-fifty balls, and were the aggressive team this evening. ST/EM had 10 corners to 3 for CMB. ST/EM had 20 shots with 16 on goal. CMB had 7 shots with 4 on goal. But CMB got the win. ST/EM as a team played very well, and gave everything they had. They showed they have a lot of heart, and that the team can play very good soccer. The goals will come, as the chances were there, and the players were taking the shots. This is a different team from last yearand show that they can press an attack, and be a threat.
The JV team started out the season with a win, by the score of 3-2. Alyssa Patro, Jade Baeza, and Guadalupe Chavez scored the goals.
ST/EM travels to Aplington to take on AP on Thursday, April 10 for a 5:30 GAME WITH Varsity first followed by JV.
