County bridge construction plans outlined; Health insurance cost jumps

On Monday, April 7, at the regular meeting of the Tama County Board of Supervisors, County Engineer Lyle Brehm presented the Tama County Road Department's 2014-2019 Construction Plan.

Scheduled for 2015 fiscal year is work on 10 bridges including one in Grant Township, Spring Creek Township, Carroll Township, Columbia Township, Salt Creek Township , two in York Township, Oneida Township, Clark Township and one on the line of Toledo and Howard townships.

For 2016 work is planned for Highland and Carroll Township as well as Bridge Inspections.

2017 will bring bridge work in Buckingham Township, as well as grading on L Avenue in Toledo Township, resurfacing Highway E36 in Oneida Township, surfacing work on Highway D65 in Geneseo Township, and paving on C Avenue, north of Montour in Indian Village Township.

2018 shows bridge work being done on the line between Perry and Crystal townships and paving L Avenue in Toledo township.

There can be changes made in this plan depending on any emergency situations which could arise.

County Health Insurance

Up 18 Percent

Skip Lowe whose agency, Bernie Lowe and Associates, is in charge of the Tama County self-funded health insurance plan was present with figures for the renewal of the plan. Administration fees will increase from $69,172 to $84,818. Reinsurance premiums will have a 9.47 percent increase

Total expected plan costs will increase from $1,766,095.20 to $2,087,839.08 which is a 18.22% increase.

The annual maximum cost shows a 18.81 percent increase.

In other business the supervisors:

the Tama-Toledo Chamber of Commerce requested use of the Courthouse Square for Footloose Friday on June 6 was approved.

permission was granted for an Easter Egg hunt to be held in the courthouse square.

accepted the audit report for the Central Iowa Juvenile Detention Center.

approve claims totaling $172,105.
