Tama burn ban is lifted

Tama's burning ban for certain types of yard waste was lifted effectively immediately by the City Council on a 3-0 vote on Monday, April 7. The ban will go back into effect on May 10, however.

Burning of leaves and certain yard waste is allowed.

However, Grass clippings and any material "with a wooded stem" is prohibited from being burned at any time.

The grass clippings can be deposited in a dumpster located north of the Tama Civic Center near the recycling collection area just off the West 5th - Harding streets intersection.

Tree limbs must be taken to the disposal site southwest of Cherry Lake. Check wit hthe Tama City Clerk's Office for access information.

Recreational fires including fire pits and fire rings were not included in the ban and continue to be allowed.

Members Kenny McAdoo, Crystal Kaufman and Doug Ray voted in favor with Steve Baier and Mike Carnahan absent.
