TV antenna users will need to re-scan for Channel 2

March 31, 2014
Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

"If your TV is hooked up to an antenna, plan to re- scan on April 5 th. " That's the message from KGAN Channel 2 General Manager Glen Callanan. In order to better serve its viewers, Eastern Iowa's CBS affiliate will soon upgrade its over-the-air broadcast signal.

Channel 2 is one of 2 CBS?affilaites received in trhe Tama-Toeldo area. KCCI Channel 8, Des Moines, the capital's CBS?affiliates is also received here.

Only viewers that use an antenna will have to re-scan channels. Cable TV customers and subscribers of DirectTV and Dish Network will not be affected.

CBS 2 will turn off its broadcast transmitter during the overnight hours between Friday, April 4 th and Saturday, April 5 th to begin the upgrade process. Following a two week period of reduced power, the signal will return to full strength and be easier to receive and available over a wider area.

Channel scanning is a simple process done with a television remote. If a home has more than one television receiving over the air signals, each set must be re-scanned. Instructions on how to scan channels are available on-line at cbs2iowa.com. A free telephone "helpline" is also available beginning on April 5th. Following the upgrade, a television using an antenna must be re-scanned or it will not receive KGAN CBS 2.

"This upgrade will provide an even bigger and better TV signal for our viewers," said Callanan. "We'll have simple instructions on our website and provide a free helpline for questions about getting your TV ready for the quality News, Entertainment and Sports provided for the Corridor and the rest of Eastern Iowa by CBS 2."
