The STC 7th grade boys basketball hosted BCLUW on Thursday, Jan. 17. South Tama was coming off a poor shooting game (19%) against a West Marshall team and hoping to get back on the winning track.
This game started well for the Trojans even though the shooting was not great. STC missed some early shots but made up for it by playing great defense and out hustling the Cobras. After one half of play STC led 11-4. Several key deflections and defensive stops were made by Wyatt Crain and Justin Senethavysouk. They were hustling back on defense and made some nice plays. The Trojans went scoreless in the third period and BCLUW scored four points to make the score 11-8 in favor of STC. More good defense and key rebounds helped the Trojans seal the win 20-16.
STC shot 25% for the game but rebounded well. The hustle and defense is what won the game. The coaches are proud of the effort and great determination to hold on for the win. The team will continue to work on shooting and fundamentals in hopes of improving.
STATS - Wyatt Crain -10 pts., 7 rebs, 3 steals; Keith Keahna- 8 pts., 9 rebs., 5 steals; Cam Klostermann- 5 rebs., 4 assts., 2 steals; Justin Senethavysouk - 2 pts., 1 reb.; Jose Ochoa - 3 rebs., 1 ast., 1 steal; Tim Evans - 3 rebs.; Lucas Wilkerson - 1 steal; last; Logan Wilkerson - 1 reb.
The B team plated a half game and BCLUW came out on top 11-1. STC shot 0-24 and Jaime Angel scored the one point. The shots were good shots to take but just poor angles and not the right firmness to hit the board softly. The players played hard and hustled but just couldn't get the shots to fall. We will continue to work on the fundamentals and improve in all areas.
STATS - Jaime Angel- 1 pt., 1 steal; Rebs - Jose Ochoa, Zach Backen, Ben Drummer 2 each, Logan Wilkerson- 1 reb.; Steals - Jamison Tyon, Kevin Rubio, Ben Drummer- 1 each.
