Knights outscore South Tama seventh graders

February 26, 2014
Lon Wilkerson , Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

The 7th grade Boys basketball team traveled to Dysart on Friday, Jan. 18, to play the Union Knights. STC was coming off a 20-16 win over BCLUW the night before.

This game was a battle from the start. Both teams played pretty even through the first half. Good defense at times was followed by good offense. Union had the bigger team in size but the Trojans kept battling and trailed at the half by one point (12-11).

The third quarter saw the Knights get more physical than us and took it to the hoop. We did not answer defensively very well and it hurt us on the offensive end too. STC only hit one basket in the third quarter while Union hit four baskets. The score after three quarters was 20-13 in favor of Union. Both teams played about even until the final quarter.

STC had some chances but some turnovers and poor shooting hurt them down the stretch. Union played better at the end and controlled the ball and made some key shots. The Knights won it 26-18 but not without a fight.

I am proud of the effort and hustle the players showed. Some nights the shots don't fall and you have to find other ways to score. We need to work on getting to the basket and finishing off the drive. We will continue to stress playing hard and work on the basics.
