The Tama-Toledo Eagles charity day to support Paws & Effects

February 26, 2014
Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

The Tama-Toledo Eagles Aerie and Auxiliary #2828 recently held several joint meetings to make arrangements for their upcoming Charity Day on Saturday, March 8. The two Iowa State Presidents chose Paws & Effect for their State Charity Project this year.

PAWS & EFFECT is a nonprofit organization, founded in 2006. One of the missions is to provide well-trained service dogs for children with autism. The most prominent program is the dog agility program at ChildServe, where children utilize trained dogs to complete their speech, occupational and physical therapy while taking a dog through an agility course. It is this program, in place since 2007, which will be expanded into a service dog program during 2014.

On average, it costs nearly $7,500 to raise one autism assistance dog, excluding administrative cost. Families are not usually in a financial position to help offset that cost, so they rely on corporate and private donations. These dogs make an incredible difference in children's lives and the Iowa Fraternal Order of Eagles and Auxiliary are honored to be a part of making their world a better place in which to live.

The program for March 8 is slated as follows: 11:00 - 1:30 Lunch, serving sandwiches, french fries and drink - $6.00; Auction: 2:00 PM, along with a Silent Auction, Raffles and a cake walk. 5:00 - 7:30 a New York Strip Steak Supper - $12.00, also serving Chicken Strips and Shrimp. At 8:OOPM there will be karaoke with Debbie and Mike Gilson of Cedar Rapids.

Out of town guests will be Worthy State President John Kipp and wife Sherrill of Davenport; Madam State President Shelley Zimmerman and husband Steve of Creston; Eva Knepp, State Auxiliary Charity Chairman of Davenport; Past State President Darwin Thomas who will do the Auctioneering and many other State Representatives from Iowa and Surrounding States.

All donations, monetary or for the auction will be greatly appreciated and can be delivered to the Eagles Club or call Larry Webber at 641484-52 10 or Jeff Dostal 641484 6078 or 641 485 5672 and they will be happy to pick up all donations. The entire event is open to the public.
