Are you waiting for winter to be over? Are you making plans for summer? Don't forget to include "attend Chelsea 150th Celebration" on your list of things to do this summer!! The festivities will be held on July 25 and 26.

Events planned for Friday evening, July 25, include an opening ceremony, beard contest judging, old-time costume contest, kolach contest, crowning of Little Miss and Little Mr. Chelsea, and crowning of Chelsea royalty (the king and queen) who will also serve as Grand Marshalls of the parade on Saturday. Friday evening will end with a community picnic. All you need to do is pack a picnic basket &/or bring your grill to cook out and then relax and socialize with your neighbors!

Saturday, July 26, will kick off with the 40th annual Chelsea Car Show. There will also be many activities throughout the day such as a vendor fair, human tractor pull, rolle bolle tournament, antique gas engine, tractor, and equipment display, and Chelsea history display. More events are being discussed and may be added.

There will be fun activities for the kids as well, including (but not limited to): kids' tractor pull, bouncy house, and other kids carnival games.

Following the car show, the Grand Parade will take place. We encourage organizations, businesses, clubs, families, and individuals to put together a float or other parade entry.

The day will end with the annual Chelsea Fire Department's annual hog roast and dance. Winners of the quilt raffle will also be chosen. There is even talk that there might be some famous Chelsea kolaches up for auction!

The history book committee would like to thank those individuals, families, organizations, and businesses that took the time to submit their information for the Chelsea History Book. The first draft is at the publisher and we are anxious to see the final product. Many thanks also to those who pre-ordered a book. We do plan to have some books for sale during the celebration. There will also be some Chelsea 150th souvenirs available for purchase as a memento of this special celebration.

You may recall mention of a BEARD CONTEST? If you would like to participate in this fun event, all you need to do is show up at the Chelsea location of the Chelsea Savings Bank and show that you are clean shaven, pay the five dollar entry fee, and sign up! Categories to be judged include: longest, darkest, grayest, thickest, best groomed, and most unusual. Recognition will also be given to the youngest and oldest participants.

Raffle tickets are still available for the queen size quilt and wall hanging quilt that was handmade by ladies of Chelsea. These items are currently on display at the Belle Plaine location of the Chelsea Savings Bank. Raffle tickets may also be purchased there or at the Chelsea location.

While you are in Chelsea, stop by at the library and "check out" their 150 for 150 contest!

Anyone is welcome to attend the planning meetings. They are held the 2nd& 4th Monday of each month at 7:00 PM at the Chelsea Fire Station. Therefore, our NEXT MEETING is Monday, February 24.

While you are on Facebook, join "Chelsea's 150th Birthday" and stay informed. As always, you can contact the committee via email at
