Lt. Governor Reynolds, David Edward Garcia keynote South Tama Importance of Agriculture Expo on Wednesday, Feb. 19

The STC FFA and the ALL4ONE group is hosting an Importance of Agriculture Expo on Wednesday, Feb. 19 in the High School Gym.

The goal of this Expo is to share the passion and dedication we have for Agriculture with the STC students, parents and community members.

The Importance of Agriculture Expo will bring the Agriculture community together to share their passion and for greater understanding. This Expo will include speakers, workshops, and an exhibitor fair.

The keynote speakers are Lt. Gov Kim Reynolds and David Edward Garcia.

The workshops include: world hunger, leadership, and wildlife habitat.

Some of the exhibitors include: Shawn Ritter Hay Grinding, Tama County Farm Bureau, DuPont Pioneer, Pella Wildlife Company, Tama County Pork Producers, Iowa Soybean Association, and Iowa Honey Producers. Many more will be present.

Keynote speakers:

Iowa Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds grew up in St. Charles, Iowa, located in Madison County. She was elected Clarke County Treasurer in 1994. In 2008, she was elected to the Iowa Senate and Lt. Governor in 2010.

She is Co-Chair of the Governor's STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering).

Reynolds is championing Iowa's STEM initiative, with the overarching goal of increasing student interest and achievement while providing access to STEM programs for students all across Iowa.

Reynolds's passion for STEM education resulted in her being the only elected official named to the "100 Women Leaders in STEM" by STEMconnector in 2012. Currently, Lt. Gov. Reynolds is chair of the STEM Food & Ag Council, as presented by STEMconnector.

David Edward Garcia is a well-known stand-up comedian and motivational speaker, who is billed to have inspired tens of thousands of high school students with his core message: "You can change the hand you've been dealt."

He will speak on Wednesday, Feb, 19 at South Tama High School on "Breaking the negative cycle."

David empathizes with students who face challenges because he was once considered an "at-risk student" himself before defying the odds and graduating with a bachelor's degree and then earning his Masters Degree.
