Since February is the month for love: "We Love The Food Pantry." Concerned citizens of Tama and Toledo have become aware that there is more need than ever for food assistance this time of year and with this economy. Discussions led to an idea to have a food 'sculpture' with donated cans of food.
A local artist, Jade Musgrave, indicated that she would help with the sculpture.
Now, what is needed are cans of food and community awareness. The plans are for the sculpture to be erected at the Shopko Store in Toledo. Different types of canned food will be collected for the sculpture each week, but the actual sculpture will be started Feb. 15.
With the Super Bowl game coming up, the first week, beginning Feb. 2, will be Souper Sunday with donations of cans of soup encouraged.
The week of Feb. 9, canned meats will be included.
Starting Feb.16, jars of peanut butter will be added.
The last week, Feb.23, is designated the fruit and vegetable week. On Feb. 28 or March l, the organizers will fill their pickups with food and deliver it to the food pantry.
The community is encouraged to drop off their food at Living Faith Methodist Church in Tama or Christ United Methodist Church in Toledo, at Musgrave Motors or at Shopko after Feb. 15.
