South Tama 7th Grade Boys Basketball Report

January 28, 2014
From: Coach Lon Wilkerson , Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

The 7th grade boys basketball team returned to action after Christmas break with a game against Gladbrook-Reinbeck on Thursday, January 9. The game was held at the STC Middle School. The Trojans entered the game with a 1-2 record with losses to South Hardin (36-18) and AGWSR (23-22). The win was against East Marshall 35-16.

The Trojans jumped out strong against the Rebels and led 14-2 after the first quarter. STC forced some turnovers with a full court press and led to some easy baskets. The Trojans passed the ball well and played good defense. The score at halftime was 21-10. After three quarters the Trojans were in front 33-18. Many players saw action in the game and the Rebels made a slight comeback against the reserves but STC held on for a 37-29 win. This was a good way to start the new year and all the players played together and hustled. It was a good team win. I am proud of the effort and hope to work on improving on the fundamentals.

STATS - Keith Keahna -8 pts., 8 rebs.,Jose Ochoa -6 pts., 3 rebs., 2 steals, Wyatt Crain - 4 pts., 4 rebs., 2 steals, Cam Klostermann - 4 pts., 2 rebs., 1 ast., 7 steals, Lucas Wilkerson - 4 pts., 1 reb., 5 asts., 2 steals, Carter Kriegel - 4 pts., 5 rebs., 1 ast., 3 steals, Justin Senethavysouk - 2 pts., 2 rebs., Brandon Senethavysouk - 3 pts., 2 rebs., 2 steals, Tim Evans - 2 pts., 2 rebs., 1 ast., Ben Drummer - 1 reb.

STC?vs. West Marshall

The STC 7th grade boys basketball team traveled to play the West Marshall Trojans on Monday, January 13. The A team played a full game and the B team played a half game.

The STC 7th graders started the game with a 4-0 run and ended the first quarter down 6-4. A poor second quarter found West Marshall up their lead 22-7 at the half. STC could not get their shooting stroke down. The shots were not falling and West Marshall caused some turnovers due to poor passing and bad decisions. The third quarter was about even with West Marshall outscoring the Trojans 10-9. Going into the last quarter STC was trailing 31-15. It was not our night for a comeback as West Marshall went onto victory by a final score of 42-19. This game got away from STC due to missed shots and getting out-hustled.. STC shot 19% and had 18 turnovers. These nights happen and must be forgotten quickly. The boys never quit and found out they need to hustle on both sides of the floor. Hopefully the next game will show some improvement and the boys can earn a win.

The B team played 2 quarters and came out on top with a score of 14-12. This group hustled and rebounded pretty well. STC made some big shots when they needed to and passed the ball well. It was a true team effort and all players hustled and worked hard on defense. Proud of the effort both these groups showed and the improvement in some areas.

STATS - A Team - Wyatt Crain - 6 pys., 6 rebs., Keith Keahna - 5 pts., 10 rebs., 3 steals, Cam Klostermann - 2 pts., 1 reb., 2 asts., 2 steals, Lucas Wilkerson - 2 pts., 3 rebs., 2 asts., 1 steal, Jose Ochoa - 2 rebs., 1 ast., Logan Wilkerson - 2 pts., 1 reb., 1 steal, Justin Senethavysouk - 1 reb., 1 steal, Carter Kriegel - 1 reb., 1 steal, Tim Evans - 2 rebs., Brandon Senethavysouk - 1 reb.

B team - Jamison Tyon - 4 pts., 1 reb., 3 ast., 1 steal, Tim Evans - 4 pts., 3 rebs., Jaime Angel - 2 pts., 2 rebs., Logan Wilkerson - 2 pts., 1 ast., Carter Kriegel - 2 pts., 2 rebs., Jose Ochoa - 3 rebs., Ben Drummer - 3 rebs., Zach Backen -4 rebs., Brandon
