By Sydney Upah - Chronicle Sports , Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

The South Tama County 8th grade girls took on the Gladbrook-Reinbeck Rebels on Thursday, Jan. 9, in the GR gym. Despite a good demonstration of teamwork from the Trojans, the Rebels claimed the win with a score of 27-23.

Grace Jimenez, Autumn McFate, Bri Nelson, Sadie Smith, and Saylor Upah made up the starting line-up for the Trojans. Upah scored the first shot of the game in the first 30 seconds, but the Trojans remained scoreless for the remaining first quarter, while GR racked up 11 of their own points. The Trojans continued to trail during the rest of the game. However, a burst of energy in the fourth quarter allowed them to close the gap to a 4 point difference between the teams, but the final buzzer went off before the girls could claim the lead. The game ended with a final score of 27-23, GR.

"It was a very close game," said 8th grade head coach Heather Wanatee. "It was a back and forth battle between two teams."

"Saylor always seems to find a way around the opponents to get to the bucket. All of these girls work hard and I hope we can finish our season strong," said Wanatee.
