"Even Elberon has one on the west side on a gravel road," Toledo Mayor Dave Svoboda told city council members on Monday night, Jan. 13.
The mayor was making his pitch for adding a welcome sign along U.S. Highway 63 (South County road) to greet visitors. Svoboda stressed the sign should be built at no cost to the city directly.
He presented a series of six drawings he requested from Toledo master sign designer Bruce McEltree and said other designs are welcome for consideration.
Five of the six examples of Toledo Welcome Signs provided by Mayor Dave Svoboda. He believes the city needs a sign along U.S. Highway 63 south. The website only allows for five photos- the sign omitted is similar to this one. All signs are pictured in the Jan. 22 issue of The Chronicle. The drawings are by Toledo master sign designer Bruce McEltree.
Svoboda said two possible locations for the sign would be on city-owned property south of the planned new Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center Toledo Clinic or in a location near the U.S. Highway 30 Expressway on-off ramps at U.S. 63.
