A rural Tama man, Daryl Lee White, 52, was killed in a one-vehicle rollover crash which occurred shortly before 2 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 20, according to the Tama County Sheriff's Office.
A passenger in the vehicle, Brandon Lee Dvorak, 30, rural Toledo, was reported to have suffered a broken nose and was transported from the scene to Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center by Belle Plaine ambulance.
The accident occurred on 400th Street between Q and R avenues, about four miles southeast of Chelsea. 400th Street is the Tama-Poweshiek county line road.
The Sheriff's Office report states White was driving a 2006 Buick LaCrosse westbound on 400th Street which was covered with ice and snow. He lost control, careened into the north ditch, traveling some 157 feet before cartwheeling. The vehicle slid, then cartwheeled again and going airborne for another 66 feet before rolling, pinning White underneath on the driver's side. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Dvorak, the passenger was able to escape the vehicle. Dvorak told the investigating officer neither White nor he were wearing seatbelts.
