MCC Construction Technology program accepting proposals for residential project

January 25, 2014
Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

MARSHALLTOWN - The Marshalltown Community College Construction Technology program is accepting applications for the construction of a residential home by students during the 2014-2015 academic year. This will be the 17th year for student-built projects in the community. MCC students are currently working on the 14th residential home that will be completed in May. Through the annual construction program projects, area residents have a unique opportunity to support the training of the Construction Technology students at MCC while fulfilling a family goal at the same time.

MCC's Construction Technology program is now accepting applications for the construction of a residential home through Saturday, March 8. MCC students will build the house during the August 2014 to May 2015 school year, supervised by instructor Russell Yarrow.

The homeowner will act as his/her own general contractor for the project and will provide blueprints and make arrangements for foundation, electrical, heating and sub-contractual work not instructed by the program. The college provides the expertise and labor for the required carpentry related construction. Costs of the materials are paid by the homeowner, as well as a stipend for the college. Those arrangements are included in the agreement with the college.
