Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

Candy Canes for Cancer is a community service student organization sponsored by the South Tama High School Autonomous Learner (ALM) Class.

Candy Canes for Cancer originated approximately 10 years ago by South Tama High School students to fulfill a community service requirement for the class.

Candy Canes for Cancer has evolved into a community and school wide project that in 2013 raised $800 to buy toys for children at the University of Iowa Children's Hospital.

Every dollar donated was used to purchase items off the University of Iowa Wish List to benefit children fighting cancer. Students delivered the items to the hospital the week of Christmas.

In addition to helping others, students learn about social responsibility and service-lessons that benefit them and our community
