North Star Community Services, a non-profit rehabilitative services agency serving Northeast and Central Iowa, has opened a new satellite office in Toledo. The new office is located at 203 West High Street in Toledo, across the hall from the Iowa State Extension Office for Tama County. Currently there are 10 staff members serving 30 individuals from the area.
North Star will be offering Supported Community Living (SCL) services to individuals with a wide range of disabilities from its new location on West High Street. SCL services offer training, support and personal assistance to individuals with disabilities whose wish is to live independently in their own home or apartment in the community. Training is customized to each individual's wants and needs, and includes things like budgeting, housekeeping, menu planning and food preparation, accessing community support, transportation, and home safety. Services are available days, nights, and weekends.
Mark Witmer, North Star's Executive Director says, "I fully believe that by having a local presence, we will be able to provide more efficient and effective services for the men and women that reside in Tama County. These individuals are currently receiving services out of our Marshalltown office; so by reducing travel distances, the time that we currently use for driving will be better spent on providing service delivery and we will be able to accept more referrals for services. We are looking forward to serving the citizens of Tama and the surrounding counties for many years to come."
This newest location joins North Star's main office in Waterloo, along with satellite offices in Marshalltown, Vinton, Waverly, Mason City, Charles City, and New Hampton. For more information about North Star Community Services' Supported Community Living program, call Deidre Moss, Site Supervisor at (641) 484-6477 or visit North Star on the web at www.northstarcs.org. An open house is being planned for sometime this summer.
