The South Tama County High School JV girls took the first step in turning their season around by winning a close game against West Marshall, 37-36. The game was held December 6 in the STCHS gymnasium.

The STC girls JV starters included senior Mollie Morgan, juniors Samantha Betz and Naomi Hoskey, and sophomores Tyieshia Arp and Chasia Shuckahosee.

Beginning the game, West Marshall gained first possession and was quick to make the first shot of the night while the STC Lady Trojans fought back with a zone defense.

Hoskey was first to make a shot for the Lady Trojans which led them to lead 7-6 at the end of the first quarter thanks to a last minute shot by Betz. A strong second quarter for STC ended 23-14. The third quarter ended 27-24, STC still maintaining a lead.

"I knew we were playing good out there, but I think we need to work on running our offense and working the ball," said Betz.

The game seemed in the bag for the STC Trojans until the last five minutes of the game which turned into a nail biter for the crowd.

The leading team switched after nearly every shot. With 1:59 left in game, West Marshall led 36-34 but the score was quickly tied by Betz bringing it to 36 all around.

After being fouled on, Shuckahosee made a free throw (making her tenth point of game) bringing STC to the lead 37-36. STC maintained their lead by blocking any West Marshall attempts to score and won the game. They now stand 1-1 in the season.

Other major contributors for the win were juniors Shania Kapayou with ten points, Naomi Hoskey with six points, Betz with ten points, sophomore Miranda Lacina with a three-pointer, and senior Mollie Morgan with one point.

"We just have to work together as a team and good things will happen," said Coach Larry Rohach.
