Praises Oak Park bandstand display

December 13, 2013
Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

To the Editor:

It is such a pleasure to write this letter because it is a thank you as well as an acknowledgment that there are citizens in Tama who have wonderful ideas and a strong sense of community.

Joni Simpson and Julie Chyma and all the friends and relatives who helped them turn the bandstand into a brilliant lighting display are to be congratulated on making this 2013 Christmas an even more special time.

We are a community - diverse in nature - but still, we are a community. We still have the values and the goodness that made and make small town Iowa great places to live and raise children. What these ladies, with the assistance of friends and family have done, serves to remind us that we can be and should be a positive place that appreciates each other and our town.

Also, this bandstand is a part of our history as are other historical objects that should be preserved. They are our past, and we should treasure them. With people like Joni and Julie, we will not only treasure our past but also build a community spirit for now and for the future.
