The 8th grade girls' basketball team started their season on the right foot, defeating the Union Knights with an impressive show of teamwork. The Knights traveled to the middle school gym on Nov. 26 for South Tama's first game of the season. The final score of the game was 29-14, South Tama.

South Tama's starting line-up included Bri Nelson, Abbie Parizek, Sadie Smith, Saylor Upah, and Kelsie York-Morris.

Though the Knights took first possession of the jump ball, Upah rebounded their missed shot and scored South Tama's first basket 45 seconds into the game. This would prove to be the first of many shots that named her the team's top scorer of the game. Upah racked up 12 of the 29 South Tama points. She also contributed five steals for the team.

York-Morris had two points and four steals. Parizek also added a basket, two assists, and a steal. Autumn McFate and Nelson each had one steal.

At halftime, the Knights were winning 6-5. South Tama came back after the half with a new burst of energy, and quickly surged ahead with baskets by Upah, S

mith, and York-Morris. The one-point lead before halftime was the only time Union had a lead on South Tama.
