Connect to local history is Tama Co. Musuem topic

Karen Petersen Groves, a lifelong resident of Sheridan Township (Poweshiek County) and Grinnell, will present a program Researching in Poiweshiek county on Wednesday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m. at the Tama Coutny Historical Scoiety Musuem in Toledo.

The public is invited to attend.

Karen is the wife of former Toledo resident Bob Groves, and has researched her Poweshiek County roots for more than five decades.

She says "I became interested in genealogy 53 years ago when my grandmother gave me a family history book to fill out. I later found many informational notes and letters with information she had saved for me.

Genealogy then expanded to a love of local history and civil war history

One of two people to complete the bi-centennial project of reading all gravestones in Poweshiek County and recording the information-donated copies to local and state libraries (late 70s and completed 1980)

Amnog her memberships are the Tama County Historical Society Museum and Genealogical Library Poweshiek County Historical and Genealogical Society (charter member) Poweshiek County Pioneer Cemetery Association (charter member) Grinnell Civil War Roundtable (from its formation) and Grinnell Historical Museum Board Member, Researcher.

" I like to find things in the files that need to be preserved by transcribing and digitalize them for preservation purposes," Karen says.
