Human Services denies des Moines Register information

A report in a recent Des Monies Register newspaper editorial largely critical of the Iowa Juvenile Home / State Training School for Girls here said Iowa girls receiving out-of-state treatment could end up at Toledo.

The editorial read, in part: "Now, as DHS attempts to bring back to Iowa girls who are receiving care at youth facilities outside the state, more girls could end up at Toledo."

The Chronicle learned the following when a query was posed to DHS:

"The Iowa Department of Human Services is examining the needs of some youth being served outside the state. We are working with private providers and others to develop appropriate services that will allow some youth to return to, and be successfully served, in Iowa. Placement at the Iowa Juvenile Home is not being used as an option in this process."
