Linn Snell, representing the Elberon Public Library was present Monday, Oct. 14, to visit with the Tama County Board of Supervisors about the library situation. Snell said the library is in debt and asked the supervisors what is the amount of support the county provides for city libraries.
She was told the budget is to be turned in to the supervisors the first of the year, each year, to be considered for support. Also, each library should furnish a report of items money is spent on.
Checks are issued to libraries twice a year, in April and November .
Snell told supervisors the Library Board meets on the second Monday of the month. At the present time Snell is serving as secretary and states they are short one member for the board.
There had been talk of the Library closing due to the deficiency in the money needed to keep the doors open. Snell said they have a real problem with people returning books and DVD's.
Supervisors said it is up to the library board or the city council to replace board members and also to help support the library.
County Sheriff Dennis Kucera was present to report the Shield Mobile Fund is in the red for $2,100.
Kucera was advised they could make an amendment to his budget to cover this from his general fund or they could replace the money and put this amount in the amendments to the other budgets later and replace the $2,100 at that time.
Kucera preferred they wait and put this in the general amendment coming at a later date.
Susan Jones presented an Utility Permit for approval for Poweshiek Water Association to do work in Geneseo Township in Section 9 on 115th Street. The permit was approved.
