The South Tama County seventh grade girls volleyball teams claimed victory against Grinnell and Oskaloosa at the round-robin Grinnell Tournament on Saturday.
The Vikings "A" team went 12-0 throughout the day with scores of 21-10, 21-17, 21-14, 21-15, 21-18 and 21-15 against Grinnell and 21-8, 21-9, 21-7, 21-16, 21-19 and 21-15 against Oskaloosa.
Leading the team was Katie Campbell, who was 38-for-42 from the serving line with 17 aces. Madison Rohach served 39-for-47 with 21 aces, while Taylor Lekin went 27-for-34 with 21 aces and Taylor Ray was 28-for-32 with 14 aces. The girls also set up the ball well. Rohach led the Trojans with six kills. Jaelin Berger contributed six in addition to Ray's four kills.
The Bears "B" team hustled its way winning 10 out of 12 of its games. Facing Grinnell, scores were 21-12, 21-11, 21-10, 21-7, 19-21 and 21-13. Oskaloosa scores were 21-13, 21-16, 17-19, 21-11, 21-13 and 21-12. Leading the serving for the Trojans was Laney Princehouse, who was 61-for-62 with 23 aces, Mackenzie Beyer (35-for-43 with 12 aces) and Taylor Hrabak (15-for-21 with 10 aces).
"The girls came together, communicated and put forth their best effort on Saturday," coach Tiffany Thiessen said. "We set the ball up well and were able to knock down several hits. I am proud of the growth they have made since the beginning of the season."
The seventh grade squads faced BCLUW on Monday and Benton Community on Tuesday before finishing their season on Thursday against AGWSR.
