Richard “Dick” Worrell

Richard "Dick" Worrell, 79 of Cedar Rapids, passed peacefully Tuesday Oct. 1, 2013 in the Grinnell Regional Hospital. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday Oct. 7, at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Rev. David Beckman and Rev. Gerald Condon will officiate. A visitation will held at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Sunday Oct. 6, from 2-5 p.m. and after 9 a.m. at the church on Monday. Burial will be in the Czech National Cemetery. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Betty Worrell, his siblings; Ronald (Donna) Worrell of Solon, Arlene Jennings of Cedar Rapids, Darlene Griffith of Cedar Rapids, Jim (Bev) Worrell of Solon, Rose (Terry) Michel of Oxford, and Linda (Kevin) Manary of Solon, his sisters-in-law; Darlene Breja of Belle Plaine, Marilyn Coover of Belle Plaine and Jeanette (Wes) Sebetka of Malcom. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Gary Worrell, brothers-in-law; James Jennings, Thomas Griffith, Joey Breja, Sheldon Coover and parents-in-law; John and Elsie Koutney.

Dick was born January 15, 1934 in Solon, Iowa, the son of George and Minnie (Petersen) Worrell. He married Betty Koutney on June 25, 1957, in Chelsea, Iowa. Dick was a sheet metal worker and shop forman for Local # 263. He was a member of St. Matthews Catholic Church, V.F.W and the Elks Club. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting, and making homemade wine. Dick and Betty also loved to dance and travel. Dick is an Army Veteran and served during the Korean War.
