We just returned from a week long trip to Seattle. Only because we helped move our daughter and her husband out there. It certainly was a bittersweet trip as she was only a couple of hours away for the last few years and now she's about 1850 miles away. It took us two nights and three full driving days to get there. And of course "Murphy's Law" prevailed again. When we arrived in Butte, Montana to spend the night, we found that we were heading smack dab into a severe winter forecast. hard all day long. We woke the next morning to about three inches of that beautiful white stuff. Yes, on September 26. Snow! We waited a while and then decided to try to get through the mountains. By the time we got there, the weather had warmed up enough that the snow had mostly melted and the drive through the mountains was fairly uneventful, albeit beautiful.
Ever hear that it rains in Seattle....all the time! Well, we got to Seattle exactly one week after what we were told was the most beautiful summer Seattle has had in decades. 75 degrees daily and sunshine. We saw nothing but rain, rain and more rain...and 50 degrees. I brought plenty of shorts and t-shirts! Deb mentioned something about a jacket but what did she know??? I don't know if anyone caught the national weather last week, but Seattle and all of the Northwest had some of the heaviest storms and strongest winds in years. There was even flash flooding in parts of Seattle. Murphy's Law once again prevailed!
We were gonna do so much sight seeing but not this trip. Too much rain, but to be honest, we all were just plain tuckered out. We said our good-byes Sunday afternoon and flew back. So glad Murphy's Law ran out before our flight. Everything went smooth!
But I do have some bad news. Not necessarily bad new--more like horrible news! This is a special News Bulletin from Sheda's Desk. "There will not be an Official World Series this year." An official World Series always includes the New York Yankee and they didn't even make it to the playoffs. What am I gonna do for the next month now? Hmmmm, maybe get excited and watch the Kansas City Chiefs as they are 4-0 so far. Well, for all the other die-hard Yankee fans out there, don't get too forlorn. I am leaving you with some Yogi Berra, (Berraisms) quotes to tide you over.
"Half the lies they tell about ain't even true."
"You can observe a lot just by watching."
"The other teams could be trouble for us, especially if they win."
"I got paid this time in cash, which really is just as good as money."
"I knew I was gonna take the wrong train, so I left early."
"It's tough to make predictions, especially about the future."
"It gets late awfully early out here."
"I'm not gonna get my kids an encyclopedia. Let them walk to school like I did.
"We may be lost, but we're making pretty good time."
"Always go to other people's funerals; otherwise they won't go to yours.
And finally when ordering pizza one day, Yogi was asked by the waitress if he wanted it cut in four or eight pieces. Yogi nonchalantly replied, "Better make it just four. I'm not sure if I can eat eight." Come on, think about it!! Anyway, it's great to be back in good ol' Iowa. The sun's shinin' and let Seattle have all their rain.
