The next planning meeting for the Chelsea 150th celebration will be held MONDAY evening, OCTOBER 7, at 7:00 PM at the Chelsea Fire Station. Anyone who is interested in getting involved or who just wants to know what is being planned is welcome and encouraged to attend!
The September meeting was well attended but more people will be needed to help plan and host this event. Discussion picked up from the previous meeting about one of the main events for the celebration the parade. There is also a possibility that the parade will be combined with a car cruise.
A history book that includes information from 1989 2014 is also being planned and was discussed. The committee will be looking for information and pictures from businesses, organizations, and families to include in the book. It is hoped to have these books ready for purchase in May, 2014. Items and photos for a history display will also be needed. If you have something of interest to include in the display, please contact one of the committee members and/or attend the next meeting.
Information about a 'traditional' tractor pull was presented. However, the idea for a 'non-traditional' tractor pull was brought up at the previous meeting and discussion continued on that event. If you want to know more about what a "non-traditional" tractor pull is, then you'll have to attend the next meeting to find out!
In addition to having the annual car show and Fireman's hog roast and dance, the plan is to have other activities take place throughout the day. Volunteers are still needed to help organize these activities and contests.
Other items that will be discussed include the logo, t-shirts, and souvenirs. Of course, funds will be needed to host this celebration, so fund-raising events will be planned for the near future.
Don't forget to stop at the Chelsea Savings Bank in Chelsea to take a look at the beautiful quilt that will be raffled off. While you are there, be sure to buy plenty of raffle tickets!
In case you haven't heard, the Chelsea 150th celebration is planned for Saturday, July 26, 2014. The goal is for those attending to have an enjoyable day with an opportunity to meet up with some old friends and reminisce about the past 150 years of Chelsea.
Please be sure to attend the meeting on October 7. For more information, visit the facebook group "Chelsea's 150thBirthday" and/or email the committee at firstname.lastname@example.org. Hope to see you on the 7th!
