The GFWC/Iowa Toledo Woman's Club held their meeting at the Toledo Public Library meeting room with 12 members attending. Hostesses were Marlene Eernisse and Karen Havran.
Sandra Phillips was our guest speaker. She is a member of the GFWC/Iowa Solon Woman's Club and a former State President. Sandy is also the President-Elect of the Mississippi Valley Region which consists of 7 states. We learned many reasons we benefit from being in a Federated Club, and how this benefits not only our State and our Nation. She also explained much of the legislation we had supported and helped to pass.
Following lunch and the program, the meeting was called to order by President Karen Havran. She read a poem "Heart Gifts" by Helen Steiner Rice in memory of member Joanne Yuska. A beautiful memorial was given by Earlene Bacon for Joanne, who had been a member of our Club for nearly 7 years. Joanne had been a very active member and was a Past President of the Toledo Woman's Club. She will be greatly missed.
Following the minutes by Arlene Gerlach and treasurer's report by Marlene Eernisse, reports were given by the Committee Chairmen for Adventures in Reading, Membership, Fund Raising, and Conservation & Sustainability.
25 year membership pins and certificates were given to Phyllis Cooper, Arlene Gerlach and Ann McMullin.
Announcements were made concerning the GFWC/Iowa State Board meeting which Marlene and Karen will attend, and the District Convention that will be held in Cedar Rapids on October 12th, hosted by our club and the Solon Club. The Convention will be held at the new Cedar Rapids Library, with a tour of the facility as part of the program.
Following the Club Collect, the meeting was adjourned.
