On Monday evening, Sept. 23, the retiring South Tama County School Board met for the last time with Ron Hala, District 4 board member, being replaced by Alan Kline. Hala did not run again for the position.
Michelle Yuska called the meeting to order, the only action item being to accept the results of the recent election. Michelle Yuska was re-elected as a District 1 board member and Alan Kline won by write-in to replace Hala.
The only other result of the election was the defeat of the PPEL fund vote renewal by one vote. This called for a recount, but there was no change.

Approval of the minutes of the last meeting, bills, financial statement and an early graduation request was given.
Joan Wacha was present and asked about the bills published in the paper at the end of August, concerning bills that were for special education.
She asked the meaning of the wording as published and wondered about open enrolling students. Superintendent Kerri Nelson and Board Secretary Mary Boege answered all questions.
Yuska adjourned the meeting and the new board was called to order for the reorganizational meeting.

Approved were l contracts for: Max Kellogg, bus driver- $26.50 per hour; Desiray Lint, elementary kitchen- $10.99 per hour; Madison Henrique, middle school kitchen- $10.99 per hour; Tracy Clark, custodial, $11.97 per hour; and Kristee Hamilton as one-half time preschool with a base pay of $13,550 and TSS of 2.455 for a total of $16,005, all effective Sept. 16.
Also, Yeni Fragaso, high school special education aide; Melanie Davenport, high school Title VII aide; and Heather Dostal, middle school educational aide, all effective Sept. 23, and at a rate of $9.37 per hour.
Ashley Raue has transferred from .5 FTE preschool to 1.0 FTE 5th grade teacher effective Sept. .23
Anna Galvez has resigned from the position of middle school ELL aide, effective Sept. 11.
Iowa Code 180.17 and Chapter 102.1 provide a uniform procedure for investigating allegations of physical and sexual abuse of students and employees.
The annual appointments include Sue Bugge, Jim Bugge, Roy Frakes, Dan Lopez, Melanie Kemper, Anita Townsley for Level 1. Level ll- Ahler's and Cooney Law Firm or other designated source.
Level l and Level ll alternate will be Kerri Nelson.
Board President McFate was appointed to be a delegate for South Tama at the Iowa Association of School Boards annual business meeting.
The board approved the account name change to Activities at the State Bank of Toledo and approved Jeremy Jones, Activity director, Mary Boege, Board Secretary-Business Manager, Mark McFate, Board president, Kerri Nelson, Superintendent and Kim Gardner, Payroll, all to have the authorization to sign on the account. James Plantz will be removed from the Pinnacle Bank and Jeremy Jones will be added.
All other business including PPEL renewal, Tyco Security proposal and ALICE training were all tabled.
