Tama Police are installing a security camera system at the downtown recycling bins site in an effort ot eliminate ongoing problems with the illegal disposal of garbage there.

Recently police officers sifting through garbage dumped at the bins have found names and cited two persons for illegal dumping.

During the special session the Tama City Council Monday night, Mayor Dan Zimmerman proposed installation of a new, LED-type street light at the corner of 5th and Harding near the site.

He said a light was recently replaced at 12th and Harding due to damage from semi truck and the area is now extremely well-lit.

He also proposed removing the current wooden fence around three sides of the bin site and replacing it with woven wire.

Council members said they favored continuing with the wooden fence because it better blocked the view of the area.
