The deadline for candidates to file nomination papers so their name will appear on the Tama City Council election ballot is next Thursday, Sept. 19.
The city election is Nov. 5.
At News-Herald deadline, at-large council member Mike Carnahan and Doug Ray had filed papers. Carnahan was appointed to a seat on the council following the election of member Dan Zimmerman to the mayor's position in the 2011 election.
The seat held by incumbent Robert Tyynismaa is also up for election this year.
John Anderson announced he would seek a council seat apparently as a write-in candidate in a Letter to the Editor appearing in The News-Herald on Sept. 6.
Tama City Council members serve four-year terms.
Nomination papers may be obtained from the Office of Tama City Clerk Judy Welch at the Tama Civic Center, 305 Siegel, from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday-Friday.

So far in Toledo, incumbent Mayor Dave Svoboda is the lone candidate for his post.
Larry Simpson has filed nomination papers for the 1st Ward?seat held by Travis Mullen.
Carol Peterie is challenging at-large council member Brian Sokol.
Toledo nomination papers are available from City Clerk Julie Wilkerson at the Community Building and also may be obtained on the Secretary of state's website.
