Candidates have until Thursday, Sept. 19, to file nomination papers for city offices in Toledo and Tama to be on the ballot for the Nov. 5 city elections.

In Toledo, incumbent Mayor Dave Svoboda is seeking a second, two-year term. He is the only candidate to file for mayor, so far.

Incumbent Brian Sokol and Carol Peterie will be competing for his at-large seat on the city council.

Former Council member Larry Simpson has filed for the Ward 1 council position. The seat is currently held by Travis Mullen.

No one has filed papers for Ward 2 and 3 seats.

The residence of incumbent 2nd Ward member Terry Goodhart has changed to the 3rd Ward due to reapportionment following the 2010 Census.

As a result Goodhart's 2nd Ward seat will be on the ballot to fill a two-year unexpired term.

The 3rd Ward council post is currently held by Elmer "Skip" Wilson.

No one had filed for either 2nd or 3rd ward at Chronicle deadline on Monday, Sept. 9.

The Toledo ward system requires candidates to live within the boundaries of the seat they are seeking. Only voters in the Ward vote for those candidates.

In Tama, two at-large council seats will be decided in the Nov. 5 vote.

Incumbent Mike Carnahan and Doug Ray have filed for the positions. Robert Tyynismaa is the second incumbent.

Nomination papers can be obtained from the Office of Toledo City Clerk Julie Wilkerson on the lower level of the Toledo Community Building, 103 S. Church St. from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Tama nomination papers are available in the office of City Clerk Judy Welch in the Tama Civic Center, 305 Siegel.

They must be filed by 5 p.m. on Sept. 19 for candidates to appear on the November ballot.

Nomination papers for city offices can also be found online at Secretary of State Matt Schultz's website -
