Mary McCann Fuchsen is from the Marshalltown area. She graduated from Marshalltown Community College, and then transferred to the University of Northern Iowa where she earned Bachelor's Degrees in Psychology and Human Services. Mary has worked for IVCCD since April 2010 as a Vocational Trainer but joined the Adult Education team this past July.

"It is exciting to be involved in teaching adults," says McCann Fuchsen. "These students are motivated; they attend class knowing this will expand their opportunities. Currently, there are many Tama County students that commute to Marshalltown for ESL and GED classes, so having the Center in Tama will be beneficial. We plan to familiarize ourselves with the Tama/Toledo area as well as surrounding communities so we can build a program to meet the identified needs."

Initially, McCann Fuchsen will offer ESL and GED classes, but hopes community interest will allow additional classes such as citizenship, job training skills, and basic computer instruction to be introduced. If the numbers warrant, additional staffing could be in the long-range plan.
