Four Toledo City Council seats will be up for election on Nov. 5. It was reported in The Chronicle last week three seats would be on the ballot.
However, City Clerk Julie Wilkerson pointed out the present Ward 2 post held by Terry Goodhart will also be included in the election due to a realignment of ward boundaries as a result of the 2010 Census. Goodhart's home is now in the 3rd Ward.
Toledo Ward council members must live in the Ward they serve. The 2011 city election was conducted before Ward boundaries were redrawn to reflect Census results.
The 2nd Ward race will be for a two-year term to fill the vacancy.
For Wards 1 held by Travis Mullen and Ward 3 held by Elmer "Skip Wilson, and the at-large seat held by Brian Sokol, the terms will be for four years.
The mayor's term is two years in Toledo and will also be on the ballot in November.
Nomination papers can be obtained from the Office of Toledo City Clerk Julie Wilkerson on the lower level of the Toledo Community Building, 103 S. Church St. from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.
They must be filed by 5 p.m. on Sept. 19 for candidates to appear on the November ballot.
Nomination papers for city offices can also be found online at Secretary of State Matt Schultz's website - sos.iowa.gov/elections/electioninfo/CityElections.html
In Tama, two council seats, currently held by Robert Tyynismaa and Mike Carnahan, will be decided on Nov. 5. All Tama council posts are at-large.
Tama nomination papers are available in the office of City Clerk Judy Welch in the Tama Civic Center, 305 Siegel.
